It wasn’t the institution’s fault – it was the people who ran them.
Of course it was Hetty, of course it was. The Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse has got it all arse up.It wasn’t the churches who were to blame for the youth suicides, it wasn’t the charities that failed kids, it wasn’t the sporting organisations that betrayed promising young athletes and their parents, and it certainly wasn’t the government’s that small kids were bashed, raped and otherwise brutalised in state care.
You are quite right Hetty, the institutions had nothing to do with it at all.
Let’s be honest, it’s really difficult for an inanimate object such as a brick building to sodomise a young child. In fact it’s impossible. It wasn’t the institutions that were to blame, they didn’t ruin the lives of all those kids. It was the people who ran the institutions. They did it. They were the criminals. They covered it up. They allowed it to happen again, over and over again.
It was them.
The people who ran the institutions. The churches, the charities, the sporting organisations, the governments. It was them. They are to blame.
And you -the self mandated voice for abused kids and kids turned adults who never actually talks to us, the victims, but are quick to tell the newspapers our tales that you cannot possibly know; you who claims through your personal PR adviser to be Australia’s leading child protection advocate ; you who invites those wedded to the institutions into your house and allow them to shine their darkness unto the world – you want to send our children back to the very institutions that caused us all so much pain.
Never Hetty, never. It must never be allowed to pass.
They who protect those that hurt children are no more or less than abusers themselves.
Once it was the people that ran the institutions that were the danger to vulnerable children Hetty.
Now it is you.
There’s a difference between us. You think the people of this country exist to provide you with position. I think your position exists to provide those people with freedom. And I go to make sure that they have it – William Wallace, Braveheart
