Every one of these candles represents an Australian woman or child killed by their partner during past year. It’s a national disgrace. So is Paul Gleeson.
Earlier this year the Bayside-based Domestic and Family Violence service WAVVS (Working Against Violence Support Services) invited elected members of the Redland City Council to attend a candle-light vigil that the service had organised to remember the many victims of domestic and family violence in their community, across the State, and throughout our sunburnt nation.
The invitation WAVSS sent to the council members let them know that the vigil was part of a series of events being held across Queensland during Domestic and Family Violence Protection Month in May, and that the somber event provided an opportunity to gather as a community to reflect on the more than 100 women, children and men (emphasis added) who each year lost their lives as a result of domestic and family violence.
Everyone in the whole wide brown land knows the story of how one late summer’s day in 2014 Rosie Batty’s psychotic, self-absorbed and increasingly deranged former husband and latter day kiddie porn devotee Greg Anderson bludgeoned his 11-year-old son Luke into unconsciousness using the boy’s own cricket bat, stabbed his now-comatose child repeatedly until he was dead, and then waited for the police to come and kill him, because like every ‘man’ who harms women and children Anderson was a weak-gutted coward who didn’t have the courage to do it himself, and even in the last seconds of his worthless existence on Earth wanted someone else to blame.
Anderson was a hollow-hearted scumbag, a selfish dog who didn’t have an ounce of ticker in his whole wretched f*cking body.
Rosie Batty doesn’t lack ticker though. She loved her young son Luke with all her heart and all her mind and all her soul, loved him with every inch of her human fiber, just like all decent people do.
Decent people who don’t bash and abuse their partners, or kill their kids.
The evil grub Anderson may have killed their son and ripped Rosie’s Batty’s heart right out, but she wasn’t going to let her boy die in vain. She was going to stand up and stop this scourge of domestic violence that had spread across the nation and was seeing women like her and kids like Luke bashed, raped and killed almost every day of every day of every week. Rosie Batty decided to bring the secret evil out of the darkness and into the light, and lay beat its black ugliness for the whole world to see.
Rosie Batty is a great Australian, and one of the greatest Australians of the Year ever.
Redland City Councilor Paul Gleeson on the other hand is a grub.
A pathetic un-Australian idiot who is a disgrace to himself, his electorate and the all the people in the beautiful bayside south-east of Brisbane town.
Paul Gleeson was invited to attend the candle light vigil to remember victims like Rosie Batty’s son and the scores of other kids killed every year by parents who are supposed to love and protect them.
Paul Gleeson was asked to stand together with the leaders of his city and send a message to the ratepayers and residents of the city that domestic violence was wrong and evil and like any plague it had to be eradicated, right here, right now, forever.
Paul Gleeson refused.
The City Councilor claimed that is was the good people working to keep women and kids safe who were tearing families apart, not the bastards who bash and beat and kill their vulnerable own.
He claimed that they turned men away. Of course they f*cking do, they’re a women’s refuge you idiot. Men who suffer domestic violence are referred to other services who cater to their specific needs and provide them with support and help.
This man who was elected to represent the people called these great Australians working at the coalface helping battered and broken women kids a disgrace.
There’s only one disgrace here Mr Gleeson.
Take a good look at him in the mirror.
